Museology Comes to the Forefront as an Alternative Tourism Type...

Stating that museums, which are one of the most important elements of cultural tourism, have started to come to the forefront as an alternative tourism type both in the world and in our country, Near East University Hospital Board Member Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan explained that especially in recent years, there have been significant developments in museology and museum tourism, and that the functions, mission and vision, management system, functioning, technologies and marketing techniques of museology have changed.

Dynamic Museums Attract Attention Rather Than Dead Museums...

Stating that in our changing and developing age, the museology model has shifted from an object-oriented approach to a visitor-oriented approach, Savaşan said: “Today, museums in the world are not only places where artifacts are stored, preserved and exhibited, but also places where visitors visit, have fun, get information and gain experience; as well as providing economic gain, supporting tourism, contributing to the education of people of all ages and socio-cultural change. In this respect, museums have become living, dynamic museums where constant mobility is experienced and different gains are obtained, rather than dead museums where historical and ethnographic artifacts are stored and exhibited.”.

We Adopt a Visitor-Oriented Approach in Our Museums...

In line with the changing understanding of museology, the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts and the Car Museums, which are brought to life by the Günsel family, have been designed with a visitor-oriented approach. Savaşan said that the museum offers a valuable product to the country's tourism with its contemporary structure that connects the past, present and future in terms of thought and emotion as well as space.

Cyprus Car Museum Collection Exceeds 150...

Giving information about the Cyprus Car Museum, Savaşan stated that more than 150 cars, the oldest of which is the 1899 model Crestmobile, the Wolseley, which is the only one in the world over 100 years old, as well as very valuable cars such as the 1949 model Jaguar XK, the milestone of the automotive sector and the first mass production car to exceed the 300 km speed limit, are presented to the tourists.

There is a Need to Act Together with the Sector...

Stating that the visit to the Near East University museums took place within the scope of the continuous training of the tourist guides affiliated to KITREB, KITREB President Yusuf Nidai, in his speech during the visit, pointed out that the demand for museum tourism in the world is increasing and even the number of visitors of some museums is more than the total number of tourists in many countries, and pointed out that there is a need to act together with the sector on what kind of promotional strategy should be followed in order to make the museums in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus more effective and strong promotion, effective marketing and branding.

Our museums have remained far from change...

Underlining that although there are many valuable artifacts in the warehouses of the Department of Antiquities, there are not enough museums in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Nidai stated that the museums in Northern Cyprus are far from the change that the museums in the world are experiencing; participatory, experiential, interactive and entertaining museology and transforming into cultural centers.

Contemporary Museology has remained far from change...

Pointing out that the financial and legal deficiencies of the museums in the TRNC and their inadequacy in using technology and mass media make it difficult to compete with museums in other countries of the world, Nidai said, ”Considering the contributions of museums to social development, their use for educational purposes, their use as alternative tourism venues and their economic functions; the development of a contemporary museology model in Northern Cyprus and making plans accordingly is the most important issue in terms of sustainable museology. Accordingly, it is beneficial to take the museums established at the Near East University as an example for the development of museology and museum tourism in our country, to compete with the museums of other countries and to increase the number of museum visitors and revenues.".

Near East University creates added value with its investments...

Nidai thanked the Near East Family, especially Dr. Suat Günsel, who contributed to the development of tourism and the increase of domestic value added by investing in museology as in many areas of life, and expressed their gratitude to Near East University for its sincere support to KITREB's trainings and activities.
